Charlie Marie Dubose Holmes

She will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery beside her husband, Oliver Mason Holmes, who preceded her in death in 1991. Reverend John Vining will be officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Russell Holmes, Scott Holmes, Keith Holmes, Charles Holmes, Matt Holmes, and Brandon Holmes. Shawn Holmes, Zachary Ford, Jace Holmes, Maxwell Holmes Broussard and Joshua Mason Holmes will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Charlie was born in Devine Texas, in 1922, the daughter of Matthew and Ruby DuBose, third generation newspaper owners of 'The Devine News”, Devine, Texas. She met Mason Holmes while employed at Kelley Field Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Mason was in training at the United States Air Force base for World War II in the Pacific.
Ms. Charlie as she was known by her many friends was an avid gardener and devoted friend. She loved taking long walks around Abbeville, caring for her unique collection of plants, shopping for antiques, and always looking forward to many church functions. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Charlie was a devoted Louisianian and a real Texan at heart.
She is survived by her children; Linda Sue Ford of Arlington, TX, Russell Mason Holmes of Breaux Bridge, Scott Erwin Holmes of Maurice, La, Roy Keith Holmes of Maurice, La, Charles Jeffery Holmes of Charleston, WV, Anna Lynn Mayeaux of Abbeville, La, Wayne Matthew Holmes of Perry, La.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
