Dwight Larue Stroud

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 1, 2009 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of Dwight LaRue Stroud, 78, who suddenly passed away Monday, September 28, 2009.

He will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Msgr. Richard Mouton officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Terry Broussard, David Foote, Mark Bruce, Chris Defrene, Roland Laurent and William Martin Stroud.

Dwight was born in Union Church, Mississippi, on April 14, 1931. He married the love of his life Margaret Bertrand, from Abbeville, in 1961, after working on a seismograph crew near Abbeville. In 1963, Mr. Stroud bought Shady Oaks Restaurant in Abbeville and began a life long career in the restaurant business. He was connoisseur of wines and won various awards in the steakhouse business. Leaving Abbeville, in 1988, he opened “Stroud’s Steakhouse” in Lafayette. He owned and operated the business until he fell sick. His son Marty Stroud, returned to Lafayette to help run the family business.


He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Bertrand Stroud; one brother, Willis L. Stroud and wife Cherry of Calhoun City, Mississippi, sister-in-laws, Rose Marie Stroud of Nacogdoches, Texas, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Martin “Marty” Morrell Stroud; two sisters, Ella Marie Smith and Mary Ann Stroud; two brothers, John David Stroud and Marion Morrel Stroud; parents, Martin Morell Stroud and the former Mary Barnes; and nephew, Richard Brent Stroud.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Thursday, October 1, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
