Emery "Bichon" Francis Toups
November 11, 1919 — November 3, 2009
He will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery with Reverend Hampton Davis officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Bill Terpening, Clay Terpening, Mark Suire, Roger Terpening, Jerry Terpening, Zachary Broussard, Jacob Broussard and Beau Falgout. Honoary pallbearers will be Alex Crochet, Charles Sonnier, Gene Sellers, Cecil Hebert, Whit Atchetee and Elray Schexnaider.
After serving in the U. S. Air Force, Bichon, worked for Texaco for 18 years. While at Texaco, he opened Toups Propeller Service which he ran for over 40 years.
Bichon was the founder and Grand Maitre of Giant Omelette Celebration, receipient of the Pioneer of the Year Award and was inducted as a Living Legend for the Acadian Musueum. He served as Past President for the Rotary Club, Veterens of Foreign Wars, Chamber of Commerce and T.I.A.R.R.A. Also was Past Commadore of the Vermilion Boat Club, member of the American Legion and Codafil.
He is survived by his wife, Olga Langlinais Toups; two daughers, Kathie (Jerry) Terpening and Liz Broussard; grandchildren, Bill (Kim) Terpening, Clay Terpening, Anne (Beau) Falgout, Roger Terpening, Mark (Kate) Suire, Zack Broussard and Jacob Brousssard and great grandchildren, Kane Terpening, Noah Terpening, Emile Terpening, Ethan Suire, Emma Falgout, Jack Falgout and Lola Falgout.
He was preceded in death by parents, Dallas Toups and the former Elia Guidry; brother, John Floyd Toups and son-in-law, Mark Suire.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
