He was preceded in death by his parents, Emery Guidry and the former Edvina Richard and one sister, Lula Mae Bernard.

Robert Charles Guidry Sr. was known professionally as “Bobby Charles”. He was a prolific songwriter who originally wrote and recorded the smash hit “See you later Alligator” that was subsequently recorded by Bill Haley. He also wrote “Walking to New Orleans” one of Fats Domino’s most beloved songs as well as “(I Don’t Know Why I Love You But I Do) But I Do” an enduring classic by Clarence “Frogman” Henry which was later featured on the soundtrack of the 1994 film ” Forrest Gump.” Many of his songs were rerecorded by artist such as Joe Cocker, Ray Charles, and Kris Kristofferson. He was known as a friend and fellow musician to Bob Dylan, Neil Young, James Taylor and Willie Nelson. He was especially close to Mac “Dr. John” Rebennack and Sonny Landreth who collaborated with him on many of his recent recordings. Bobby wrote many other songs that have been copied by other artist and was recognized for his artistic contributions to the music industry by being inducted in the Louisiana and Texas Music Hall of Fame. Despite his recent declining health Bobby finished recording his last album and completed the cover art work two days before his death. This album will feature songs he considered “Timeless” and is a tribute to Fats Domino, his friend and inspiration. It is fitting that one of the songs on this album is entitled “Rollin Round Heaven” (all day) A tribute to Bobby Charles is being planned at the Lafayette Festival International in April of this year and another memorial in New Orleans will be scheduled later by his music business friends and artists. There was never any “good byes” in Bobby’s vocabulary. All visits would end with “See you later Alligator” and he would expect the response to be “After while Crocodile.”
