Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Mary Rose Vincent Broussard, 86, who died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at her home very peacefully after a lengthy illness. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services. Readers for the Mass will be Christine Helen Cook, Catherine Rose Rountree and Kimberly Marie Meaux. Gift bearers will be Claire Rose Charbonnet, Camille Rose Reaux, Catherine Alexandra Cook and Ruth Ann Reaux. The vocalist will be Jodi Bollich. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Ronald Meaux Jr., James Edward Reaux, Gordon Elliott Rountree Jr., Christopher Thomas Cook, John Wesley Magee III and James Ellis Magee. Honorary pallbearers will be Mason James Reaux and Gordon Elliott Rountree III.

Mrs. Broussard was born in Abbeville, Louisiana and was a resident of Kaplan for most of her life. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She was a teacher, both with respect to the life lessons that she imparted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as, the instructions and lessons that she taught to hundreds of her students over the twenty-five years that she taught at Kaplan Elementary School. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, and during her lifetime was active as President of the Vermilion Parish Women’s Auxiliary to the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association, the Kaplan Garden Club, the Catholic Daughter’s, and was a member of the Kaplan Mardi Gras Krewe of Chic-A-la-Pie.

She is survived by four daughters, Rayetta Broussard and her husband, Ronnie Meaux of Kaplan, Mary Olive Broussard and her husband, Richard D. Chappuis Jr. of Lafayette, Josette Broussard and her husband, Carlan Hanks of Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, and Jamie Broussard and her husband, Donald Charbonnet of Metairie; thirteen grandchildren, Charles Meaux Jr. of Kaplan, Caroline Reaux of New Iberia, Dilon Hanks of Plano, Texas, Laura Hanks and Catherine Rountree, both of Lafayette, Christine Cook and Elise Danner, both of Dallas, Texas, Rick and Cameron Chappuis, both of Lafayette, Claire and Chris Charbonnet, both of Metairie, Nicole Charbonnet of Atlanta, Georgia, and Donny Charbonnet of Baton Rouge; nine great grandchildren, Kimberly and Katie Meaux, Mason, Camille, and Ruth Anne Reaux, Elliott and Rose Rountree and Christopher Cook.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, J. Ray Broussard, as well as, her parents, Elas Vincent and the former Olive Vincent and one sister, Zula Vincent Magee.

The family would like to give special thanks to her extremely devoted caregivers, Swan Grant and Cindy Mier, for their kindness and gentle care provided to her during the last five years of her life, and would also like to thank the staff of Hospice for their care and compassion during her difficult times.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in the name of Mary Rose Vincent Broussard to Hospice of Acadiana 2600 Johnston Street, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503, or Maltrait Memorial Catholic School, One Crusader Square, Kaplan, LA 70548.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 from 8 a.m. until 10:45 a.m when the procession will depart for the church.
