Myrtle Valentine Hasemann

September 26, 1923 — January 22, 2010

Abbeville-Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of Myrtle Valentine Hasemann, 86, who died Friday, January 22, 2010 at Maison du Monde Living Center.

She will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery with Reverend Noah Langley officiating the services.


She was born in Parhams, LA on September 26, 1923, one of ten children of Isaac Valentine and Lizzie Brister. During World War II she worked at Camp Claiborne. Here she met and later married her future husband, Arnold Hasemann on October 7, 1944.

In 1952 the couple moved to Abbeville with their boys and began a small watch repair/jewelry business. Myrtle worked beside her husband and later her son, Greg, in this family business. For over 40 years Mrs. Hasemann was known for her smiling presence and helpfulness to all who entered Hasemann's.

Mrs. Hasemann loved the outdoors. She was a person who enjoyed planting flowers and watching them grow. This characteristic Myrtle passed on to her son Lenny. She loved all her pets. Special thanks go out to Raynell Domingue who monthly visited her at the nursing home always bringing Mrs. Hasemann's former dog, LuLu, on these visits.
Myrtle is survived by two sons-Leonard Hasemann and his wife Millie Trahan of Hurst, Texas and Gregory Hasemann and his wife Judy Meyers of Henry, LA. She had two grandchildren, Sharon Hasemann of Galveston, TX and Andrew Hasemann of Houston, TX with a new great -grandchild Addison. Other survivors include two sisters, Marie Evans, Golden Moser, and two stepchildren- Gordon Hasemann and Arlene Fosdick.

Mrs. Hasemann was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Hasemann and two sons- infant Darwin and Robert; her parents Isaac and Lizze Brister Valentine; sisters, Lottie Roach, Lessie Wall, Dorothy Akins and Hazel Ford; brothers, Troy Valentine, Lloyd Valentine, and Francis (Buddy) Valentine.

The family would like to express thanks and appreciation for the excellent care Myrtle was given by the staff at Maison du Monde and Dr. Ronald Lahasky and his staff. Extra attention was given to her by Southern Care. Special thanks are extended to LaShonda Johnson, her hospice aid, and her hospice nurses. LaShonda always treated Myrtle with both kindness and tenderness. The family deeply appreciated her dedication.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
