Gueydan—Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at a 3 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Willis Joseph Meaux, 83, who died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Msgr. Russell Harrington officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Buddy Cormier, Shane Meche, Shannon Domingue, Byron Hebert, Joshua Lege and Michael Reagan. Honorary pallbearers will be T.J. Scott, Ty Scott, Christopher Lege and Damon Simon.
Mr. Meaux was a United States Army veteran who proudly served his country during World War II.
Mr. Meaux is survived by five daughters, Bonnie and her husband, Wade Cormier Sr. of Gueydan, Edna and her husband, Harold Meche of Mire, Beverly Meaux of Jennings, Tina and her husband, Kaleb Beard of Gueydan and Gina Scott of Gueydan; one brother, Raymond Meaux and his wife, Brenda of Texas; twenty grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wilda L. Meaux; one daughter, Melissa Meaux; and his parents, Leon Meaux and the former Edna Matthews.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Monday, February 22, 2010 from 10 a.m. until services on Tuesday, February 23. A rosary will be prayed Monday evening at 7 o'clock.
