A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2006, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, honoring the life of Obey Roy, 80, of Erath, who died Friday, August 11, 2006 at the V.A. Hospital in Alexandria. Reverend Kevin Bordelon will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery with Military Honors by the Vermilion Parish Honor Guard. Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Roy and wife Renee’ of Abbeville, Rickey Roy and wife Leona of Tacoma, Washington; one daughter, Jennifer Roy of Abbeville; one brother, Preston Roy of Abbeville; two grandchildren, Derek Roy and Rachelle Roy; and one great grandchild, Jordan Buckner and former wives, Regina Arceneaux and Hazel P. Roy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antoine and Edna Roy; wife Lillian Blanchett; seven brothers, Severin, Odes, Edes, Dudley, Cloris, Willis and Lovelace Roy; and four sisters, Olita Faulk, Edia Chauvin, Ola Sherman, and Delta Menard. Obey Roy served in the Air Force from 1945-48, spending most of his duty in Japan. He achieved the rank of sergeant and received the World War II Victory Medal and Japan Army of Occupation Medal. Roy operated a restaurant in Crowley from 1949-1952. He then worked for Soileau Produce of Coteau for the next six years, delivering produce across the country. In 1959, he began a 26-year career in the oilfield, most notably employed by Gulf Coast Pre Mix Mud of Abbeville as a field representative. Roy retired in 2005 after 20 years of service to St. Mary Magdalene Church as cemetery manager. Roy was well known as an excellent camp cook. Among his hobbies were duck and dove hunting, dancing to his favorite Cajun music and enjoying bourre' with friends. The family request that visiting hours be observed Sunday, August 13, from 12 (Noon) until 10 pm. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. and Monday, August 14, from 8 a.m. until time of service.
