Abbeville- Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 14th at noon, honoring the life of Ambler Branham, 98 who passed away at 9p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2006. Ambler was a member of the Merchant Marine, employed by Texaco and Lykes Brothers, and traveled around the world to ports as far-flung as Spain, Japan, Vietnam, Africa, and Italy. During World War II, he was in charge of rigging at Pennsylvania Shipyard in Beaumont, TX. He worked at many professions, including tugboat captain, steeplejack, boxer and owner of a cab stand in Port Arthur, TX. Ambler was a 62-year member of the Masons. The Funeral service will be conducted by members of Lodge #192 of Abbeville. Ambler was born in Amherst County in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia in January, 1908. Ambler was a resident of Henry for nearly 40 years until he was displaced by Hurricane Rita and most recently resided in Eastridge Assisted Living where his wife of 68 years, Elta Mae, continues to reside. Survivors include his wife, Elta Mae Delino Branham, one son, Larry Branham of Austin, TX, three daughters, Linda Twill and husband Larry of New York, NY, Donna Loeb and husband Dr. Phillip Loeb of Abbeville, LA, and Lori Branham of Austin, TX; and six grandchildren: Lisa Godsick and her husband Christopher of Los Angeles, CA, Lawrence Twill of New York, NY, Lee Twill and his wife Gretchen of Medford, Oregon, Rian Galbreath of New York, NY, David Galbreath of Modesto, CA, and Sarah Galbreath of Fremont, CA. Visitation will be held at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 South St. Charles St. Abbeville LA, on Sunday, August 13th from Noon to 8p.m. and on Monday August 14th from 8a.m. until time of services.
