Mrs. Leoussar Duhon (Formerly Blanche Touchet)

October 26, 1915 — March 25, 2010

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010 at a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Blanche Touchet Duhon, 94, who died peacefully at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital Thursday, March 25, 2010. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services.

Blanche's long life may in part be due to a very active physical lifestyle of hard work. What others younger than she would have never attempted to begin, she most often successfully completed. She was an avid gardener and was awarded both Garden of the Month and Yard of the Month on numerous times over a twenty year period. The bounty of her vegetable garden was often shared with family and neighbors. Having been raised a farm girl, she loved the outdoors. She was an expert cook and baker. Her homemade tarts, cake doughnuts, and fresh beignets were hard to beat. Above all else, Blanche was a loving and dedicated housewife and mother. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Leoussar Duhon, and by their infant daughter, Anna Mae. Her parents were Oneziphore Touchet and Cecilia Dore Touchet of Youngsville. Blanche was the youngest of seven children who predeceased her, two sisters, Editha T. Suire and Onezime T. Maturin and four brothers, Joseph, Theo, Saul and Blanc Touchet.

Blanche is survived by her daughters, Gladys Duhon Cooley and her husband C.B. of Jennings, Maudrey "Bea" Duhon LeMaire and her husband Deral of Beaumont, Texas, and son Joseph Duhon of Kaplan. Her grandsons are Dane A. LeMaire, wife Jennifer, and daughter, Kiara of Fort Wort, Texas, and Neal P. LeMaire, wife Theresa, and daughters, Brooke, Chloe and Amaya of Santa Maria, California. Her five step-grandchildren are Michael, Alana, Shelly, Scott, and Mark Cooley.

Special thanks to Blanche's PCAs who assisted her son in caring for her over the past five years. They are Peggy Trahan, Patricia Nunez, Leona Brailey, Eva Guidry, Nita Pere, Jasmer Rudd, Maxine Hardy and Cathy Marceaux.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Friday, March 26, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, March 27, from 8 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
