Abbeville, La. – Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. Galton Plaisance, 91, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville. He died Sunday at his residence following a six-month struggle with cancer. Pastor Kenneth Istre and Police Chief Rick Coleman will officiate. Mr. Plaisance will be laid to rest in St. Paul Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lois Read Plaisance; his son and daughter-in-law, Francis and Vana Plaisance of Abbeville; his granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Ladessa and Corey LeBlanc of Abbeville; a great-granddaughter, Kallen Elizabeth LeBlanc; three sisters, Irene Simon of Gueydan, Anite Martin of Bundick Lake; and Viola Vondenstein of Gueydan; two brothers, Ludring Plaisance and Julius Plaisance; both of Gueydan; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Plaisance was preceded in death by his grandson, Francis J. Plaisance, Jr.; his parents, Polite and Ada Lege Plaisance; and three brothers, Joseph Plaisance, Sandras Plaisance, and Savy Plaisance.

Mr. Plaisance retired from Riviana Rice Mill after 38 years of employment. He was a founding member of the Abbeville Church of Christ. During World War II, he served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, 104th Infantry Division (Timberwolf), in the European theater. He was stationed in France, Holland, and Germany. Mr. Plaisance was awarded three disguised services medals; a Bronze Star, a Good Conduct medal, and a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged. A military honor guard will participate in Mr. Plaisance’s funeral service on Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Julius Plaisance, Ludring Plaisance, Corey LeBlanc, Steven Plaisance, Callen Simon, and Ricky Vondestein. Honorary pallbearers will be Murphy Sellers, Allen Plaisance, Randy Plaisance, Robert Plaisance, Kenneth Vondenstein, Cliff Simon, Dale Dartez, Darrell Dartez, Karl Dartez, and Randy Dartez.

Visitation will be observed from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. until the 2 p.m. services on Wednesday, at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 South St. Charles St., Abbeville.
