Sidney Joseph Bertrand

December 14, 1926 — April 6, 2010

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 9, 2010 at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Sidney Joseph Bertrand, 83, who died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Father Gary Schexnayder officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Michael Bertrand,II, Brian Bertrand, Christopher Bertrand, Shea Bertrand, David Bertrand,II, Christopher Baudoin, Joshua Baudoin and Gage Bertrand.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Sellers Bertrand of Abbeville; three sons, Michael Bertrand and his wife, Annette of Abbeville; Philip Bertrand and his wife, Kayla of Crowley; and David Bertrand and his wife, Deborah of Abbeville; a brother, Dudley Bertrand and his wife, Mary of Monroe; two sisters, Ruby Ortamond of Abbeville and Melba Ortamond and her husband, Willis of Abbeville; 15 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by by his father, Dema Bertrand, Mother, Elia Gisclair Bertrand, a granddaughter, Anne Marie Bertrand, sisters, Mabel B. Carroll, Olive B. Esponge, Osa B. Sellers, Gloria B. Roberts,and Ozite Bertrand, his brothers, Otis Bertrand and Octa Bertrand.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 12:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM and visitation will resume Friday, April 9, 2010 from 8:00 AM until departure for St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church at 1:45 PM.
