Deacon Benedict “Benny” Murry Morello

Abbeville- Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 31, 2006 at a 3:00p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Theresa Catholic Church honoring the life of Deacon Benedict “Benny” Murry Morello, 78, who died August 28, 2006 at Abbeville General Hospital. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery with Reverend Chester Arceneaux officiating the services. Benny was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3793, member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6496 and Woodmen of the World. He was a veteran of the United States Navy who served our country during World War II. He was a member of Admiral Byrd’s South Pole expedition. He was a Deacon on the staff at St. Theresa Catholic Church and served on the clergy council and consultant to Bishop Frey. Benny also served as assistant chief of police with the Abbeville Police Department and was a member of the Louisiana Municipal Police Officers Association. The Vermillion Honor Guard will conduct the military services at the cemetery. He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Thompson and her husband Charles of Abbeville; three grandchildren, Lucas Tullier, Charles “Aaron” Thompson and Caitlin Thompson all of Abbeville; and two sisters, Laura Morello Bourg of Texas and Tina Morello Potts of Houston. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy B. Morello; parents, Alphonse and Agnes Loretta Stansbury Morello; two brothers, George Morello and Alphonse Morello Jr.; and one sister, Rose M. McCarble. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 South St. Charles, Abbeville, Wednesday, August 30th from 2:00p.m. until 10:00p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00p.m.; Thursday, August 31st from 8:00a.m. until time of services.
