Abbeville— A Mass of Christian burial will be held to celebrate the life of Leola “Singsie” Dubois who passed away at her home on Thursday, May 20, 2010. Services will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Abbeville on Monday, May 24, 2010 at a 1:30 p.m. Reverend William C. Blanda will be the main celebrant with Msgr. Keith Derouen con-celebrating and providing the homily. She will be laid to rest in the St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Freddy Dubois, Richard Dubois, Michael Bertrand, Brian Bertrand, Christopher Bertrand, Jeremy Dubois and Grayson Dubois.
Remaining to keep her memories alive are her four children: Freddy Dubois and his wife Sandy; Billy Dubois and his wife Develyn; Annette Bertrand and her husband Michael; and Gregory Dubois and his wife Christine; 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; and one sister Gertrude Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dudles Dubois; granddaughter Anne-Marie Bertrand; her parents Ignace Frederick and Octavie Bergeron Frederick. Five sisters; Irene Martina, Aline Romero, Ruth Mouton, Ruby Sagrera and Alberna Frederick; and four brothers; Ferdinand “Piggy” Frederick, Fray Frederick, Warren Frederick and Ignace Frederick, Jr.
Singsie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, affectionately known by all who knew her as “Gammie”. She possessed a deep love and devotion to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and her Catholic faith. She served as a shining example of the love of Christ to all people she encountered. Her dedication to her family was evident by her attendance and support at all of her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities. Her presence will be profoundly missed.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Monday, May 24, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Mt. Carmel Elementary or the Anne-Marie Bertrand Scholarship Fund, at Vermilion Catholic High School.
