Harvey J. "Chonch" Stelly
February 23, 1936 — May 23, 2010
Mr. Stelly farmed rice and cattle for 20 years until 1974 when he took over his fathers family business, Stelly’s Grocery in Forked Island and owned and operated it until his retirement in 2004.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorsey Dean V. Stelly of Forked Island; four sons, Gary Stelly and his wife, Tina of Cow Island, Nathan Stelly and his wife, Bonnie of Forked Island, Kendall Dale Stelly and Billy Stelly and his wife, Roxanne of Kaplan; two daughters, Daveene Stelly of Forked Island and Jackie and her husband, Rodrick Abshire of Forked Island; two brothers, Clifford Stelly of Forked Island and Carlton J. Stelly and his wife, Virgie of Perry; one sister, Marilyn and her husband, B.J. Lege of Forked Island; nine grandchildren, Lidie and her husband, Russ Vincent, Leah and her husband, Nick Trahan, Jenna and her husband, Lucas Vincent, Justin Stelly, Wendy and her husband, Rixey Broussard, Blake Broussard, Dustin Stelly, Gabbie Landry and Shawn Stelly; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lodias Stelly Jr. and the former Lelia Hebert; and two grandchildren, Brant Stelly and Lerin Abshire.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Monday, May 24, from 8 a.m. until the procession leaves for the church.
