Wanda Ryan Leblanc

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville. After a courageous battle with cancer Wanda Ryan LeBlanc passed away peacefully on August 8, 2010 at the age of 77, although she would only admit to being 59 years old.


She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery with Deacon Cody Millier officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Gary and David LeBlanc, Don Dressler, David and Christian Dupre and John Singletary, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be her brother, Marshall Ryan and Ryan LeBlanc, Roy Landry, M.D., James Reeves, PhD, Louis Roth, PhD and Robert Streng.


She was a native of Boyce, Louisiana, grew up in Pineville, Louisiana raised her family in Metairie, Louisiana. Wanda graduated from Bolton High School in 1951, then SLI (now UL-Lafayette) in 1954. She later obtained her Masters in Education at LSUNO (now UNO) in 1970 she then retired to Abbeville 25 years ago after a career as a special education teacher.


She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her.


She is survived by husband of 56 years, Jules F. LeBlanc; two daughters, Renee LeBlanc Dressler (Don) and Susan LeBlanc Dupre (David); two sons, Gary and David LeBlanc ; one sister, Kitty Wilkens of Pineville, LA; and one brother, Marshall Ryan and his wife Martha of Reston, LA. She loved being MiMi to Anna and Sarah Dressler, Christian and Haily Dupre, Ryan, Regan and Riley LeBlanc.


She was preceded in death by her son, Danny LeBlanc; parents, Edward and Ruth Ryan.
Her kindness and charity were known to many. She devoted much of her time to the Keep Abbeville Beautiful organization. She took a special interest in St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery gardens, the grounds at Abbeville Courthouse and her most recent project was to restore and garden the Blacksmith Shop in Abbeville.


She also enjoyed dancing, reading, Wheel of Fortune followed by her nightly dining.


She was an author of a childrens book titled Litzee Litters to educate the Abbeville youth on the importance of keeping Abbeville clean and litter free.


There was no task too small or too large that Wanda could not conquer.


Another passion of Wanda's was her exercise regimen at Lafayette Health Club where she was also a previous owner and manager.


The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday August 11, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
