Alice Cade Broussard

August 11, 1923 — September 6, 2010

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 9, 2010 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Alice Cade Broussard, 87, who died Monday, September 6, 2010 at Eastridge Assisted Living Center.

She will be laid to rest at Bancker Cemetery with Reverend William C. Blanda officiating the services. Pallbearers are Ryan Broussard, Brian Marie, Ronnie Ledet, Shawn Dupuis, Al Lee, and Robert Cade. Honorary pallbearers are John Broussard, James Ledet, Mat Gamel and Lawrence Williams. Readings will be given by Amanda Dupuis, Lawrence Williams and Pauline Ledet.

Alice Cade Broussard was born in Cade, Louisiana in 1923 and has lived in Cade, Bancker, Louisa and Abbeville. Her parents were William Bancker Cade and Pauline Butaud Cade. Alice was a retired teacher having taught 27 years. Her career began in Catahoula, Louisiana after her college graduation from Sacred Heart Academy in Grand Coteau. When visiting her sister Sarah in Henry, she met her future husband, Norris. They were married 53 years at the time of his death. She taught many grades during the years and finished her career teaching 5th grade at Herod Elementary. She was a member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and the Vermilion Association of Educators. She touched the lives of many children during her teaching career. Alice volunteered many hours to teaching catechism after her retirement and was a devout Catholic. She loved cooking for her family, singing and dancing. Alice was a kind and loving person who doted on her grandchildren and gladly gave whatever she had. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her three children: Mary Pat Broussard Ledet and her husband Ronnie, Marcelle Broussard Marie and her husband Brian and John Norris Broussard, Jr. She was "mommon" to Polly Ledet, James Ledet, Amanda Ledet Dupuis, Julianne Marie Gamel, Ryan Broussard, and two great grandchildren: Audrey Gamel and Roewynn Broussard.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norris "Red" Broussard, Sr., parents, Bancker Cade and Pauline Butaud Cade, her sisters, Edith Cade Trahan and Sarah Cade Menard, her brothers, Harold "Buzz" Cade, William "Bill" Cade and Charles "Choppy" Cade.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

Special thanks are given to her faithful caregivers: Norma Delahoussaye, Trinda Derouen, Brunella Ray, and Terry Sonnier for their devotion to Alice. Many thanks are extended to Hospice of Acadiana for their kindness.
