April Gastal Winner

Father Kendal Faulk and Father Kenneth Mayne will be officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
April’s love for both music and singing influenced her to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree from Northwestern State University in 2004 and obtain a Master’s Degree in 2007 from McNeese State University. April was a member of Music Educators National Association, Louisiana Music Educators Association, The Organization of American Kodaly Educators, Louisiana Association of Kodaly Educators, American Choral Directors Association, Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, Tau Beta Sigma Music Service Sorority, and Alpha Omicron Phi Sorority.
For 6 years April has shared her love for music with students at St. John Elementary School in Lake Charles, LA and both Dozier and LeBlanc Elementary School in Erath, La. She also directed St. John Elementary Chorus, Le Petit Voix Community Children’s Chorus, Dozier Elementary Chorus, and Les Jeunes Chanteurs Community Children’s Chorus. April’s passion for music will forever be missed by those she leaves behind but will forever be heard through the Choirs of Angels in heaven.
Heaven called a person of tremendous Catholic faith home. To those of us who knew her, she will forever symbolize the strength, courage, and perseverance by which we all should live.
Those left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband Wayne Winner, her loving parents Danny and Jenny Baudoin Gastal, her brother Nicholas Gastal and his wife Shawnee, her brother Charles Gastal, great-grandmother, Mrs. Lucy B. Thomas, and her godchild Jordan Baudoin.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Jack and Cecil T. Baudoin, Jacob and Beulah Gastal, Allen Thomas Sr., and her aunts Jacqueline B. Faulk and Melissa R. Baudoin.
Pallbearers will be Nicholas Gastal, Charles Gastal, Kyle Baudoin, Edward Polite, Josh Lemaire, and Chris Duhon.
The family would like to thank Dr. Anita Sabichi, Dr. Erich M. Sturgis, Dr. Matthew M. Hanasono, Dr. Adam S. Garden, Mark S. Chambers D.M.D. of MD Anderson in Houston, TX, Dr. Kemp Coreil, and Dr. Joseph E. Brierre, of Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette, LA, and Ms. Julia Thibodeaux of Hospice of Acadiana. The concern, care, and compassion they shared with April during her time of need will forever be remembered.
A very special amount of thanks is extended to all of April’s family and friends for their love, support and prayers. We thank both Dozier and LeBlanc Elementary principals, teachers, staff and students for their love, support, prayers and meals they provided to us during this time. Thanks also for the support extended to Mr. Wayne Winner from the staff and students of Abbeville High School.
The family asks that donations be made in April’s memory to the American Cancer Society and Hospice of Acadiana.
Visiting hours will be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, September 12, 2010 from noon until 10:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
