Herbert Pickett

Vincent Funeral Home honoring the life of Herbert Pickett, 90,who died November 01, 2006.
He will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery.
Herbert Pickett, son of Marie Anna ,Lee and Martin Calvin Pickett, was
born in Henry, Louisiana. He died in Dallas, Texas, nineteen days
short of his 91st birthday. He graduated from Henry High School and
attended Port Arthur College. He married Olga Mae Ramke. daughter
of Emma Foster and George Ramke. Their only child Patricia Ann
Pickett was born in 1939. Pickett served in WWII in the Navy aboard
the USS Atlanta as a radioman. He survived the sinking of the
Atlanta at Guadalcanal. Following his service to his country, he
began his career in ground-to-air communications for Delta Airlines.
Pickett had advanced to supervisor of radio by the time he retired in
Atlanta, GA, after 31 years with Delta. He and Olga retired to
Bancker LA where they were members of Abbeville United Methodist
Church. Following Hurricane Rita the Picketts moved to Carrollton,
TX, near their daughter Pat. Pickett is survived by Olga Pickett, his
wife of 68 years; his daughter Pat and son-in-law Theron Ewert; by his
three grandchildren and their spouses: James and Debbie Ewert of
Woodbine, MD; Michael and Julie Ewert of Hurst, TX; Anna Marie
Ewert-Pittman and Brian Pittman of Rowlett, TX; half-sisters Lola
Bingham and Eudora Pickett of Orange, TX; Bonnie June Duncan of
Napoleonville, LA; and half brother Avery Pickett of Orange, TX.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 South St. Charles, Abbeville, Tuesday, November 7th from 9:00 a.m. until 11 :00 a.m. and funeral service at 3:00 p.m.
