Rena Mary Benoit

Abbeville—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 29,2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Abbeville for Rena M. Benoit, 86, who passed away on Saturday, September 25,2010. Father Kenneth Mayne will officiate the ceremony. Interment will be held at St. Paul Cemetery in Abbeville.

Rena's Catholic faith was a very important part of her life and she served for many years as a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Auxiliary and the St. Theresa Alter Society.

Readers for the ceremony will be Maria Rogers Phares and Peggy Wright. Gift bearers will be Mary Katherine Rogers and Matthew Anthony Rogers. Pallbearers will be Micheal Matthews, Terry Matthews, Ronald Thibeaux, Marion Bessard, Michael Bessard and Walter Robinson.

For most of her adult life, Rena was an intergral part of the Effie & J.C. "Black" Rogers family home. During those almost 60 years Rena helped raise their four children, David, Tommie, Mary Katherine & Kelly, as well as their grandchildren. Rena was such an important part of their lives and always fondly ... referred to them as "my children". She was a strong and loving woman and her memory and spirit will live on in their lives.


An adopted sister, Marjorie Stevenson, who was her caretaker for the last few years, survives Rena. A special niece, Audrey Robinson, and a godchild, Javalon Matthews, also survive her, as well as 3 brothers and 8 sisters. In addition to her parents, John Thomas Benoit and Euphremie "Fannie" Montgomery, her godparents, Clerphe Bessard and Gertrude Bessard, as well as 2 sisters, Rose LeBlanc and Agnes Milton also preceded Rena in death. Rena was also predeceased by one of her "children", Benjamin Jude Rogers.

The family would like to give special thanks to Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Collette Ruffins, Abbeville General Hospital, Dr. Link Silar, Dr. Claude Meeks, and Hospice IBC Group for their care and compassion during her brief illness.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
