Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Monday, October 4, 2010 at a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church honoring the life of George Choate, Jr., 69, who died Friday, October 1, 2010 at his residence.
He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Mayne officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Martha Choate, George Choate, John Choate, Toby Choate, Mickey Toups and Dalton Toups. Honorary pallbearers will be Renee Choate, Donnie Pere' and Kathy Bourque.
Mr. Choate retired from the Abbeville Fire Department, he was also a carpenter, roughneck and a coach. He coached girls softball, boys baseball and football.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Toups Choate; children, Martha Choate, Renee Choate, George Choate and wife Linda and John Choate and wife Tiffany; grandchildren, Angelina Stephens, Shannon Feehery, Tara Meaux, Toby Choate, Paige Choate, Taylor Choate, Libbee Choate, Zachary Choate and Layla Choate; great grandchildren, Jonah Feehery, Penney Feehery, Serenity Stephens, Karleigh Simar and Kyleigh Choate; half-sisters, Tessie Stephens, Elaine Champagne and Kathy Bourque and half-brothers, Paul Sellers, Gerard Sellers and Edgar Deerborn.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Choate, Sr.; mother, Ophelia Choate Menard; father-in-law, Wilton Toups; mother-in-law, Lorena Touchet Toups; and two sisters, Flo Milstead and Deloris Snead.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Monday with a rosary to be prayed Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
