William Gayle Frederick

September 19, 1933 — October 5, 2010

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Friday, October 8, 2010 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Catholic Church in Esther, honoring the life of William Gayle Frederick, 77, who died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Lafayette General Hospital after a courageous battle of leukemia.

He will be laid to rest at The Esther Cemetery with Father Manny Fernandez officiating the services. Pallbearers will be William (Bill) Frederick, Anthony (Tony) Frederick, Ryan Duhon, Matthew Duhon, Russell Saia, and Tim Gabor. Honorary pallbearers will be William Armstrong and Anthony Luke Frederick.

Gayle played three sports at Abbeville High School. He served on the Hall of Fame committee and numerous other sporting committees. He coached for 20 years in Minor League, Little League, Babe Ruth League and Senior Babe Ruth League. In 1974, he coached the 15 year old boys in the Babe Ruth World Series. He was elected to the Vermilion Youth Hall of Fame in 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Mary "Tuddy" Sagrera Frederick; children, Bill (Martha) Frederick, Tony (Sherri)Frederick, Marcelle Frederick, Russell Saia and Stacy (Tim) Gabor; his grandchildren, Ryan (Niki) Duhon, Matthew (Rachelle) Duhon, Will Armstrong, Anthony Frederick, Olivia Gabor and Amelia Gabor, Mallorie, Mollie and Margaret Saia; great grandchildren, Bree Elizabeth and Carlie Gayle Duhon; brothers, James Kelly (Clara Bell) Frederick and Rayward Frederick; sisters, Doyce Caputo and Lona Dean (John) Sellers.

He was preceded in death by his father, Luke Frederick; mother, Elite Hebert Vallot, step-father, Joseph Vallot; grand daughter, Adrien Renee Frederick; brother in law, Anthony (Tony) Caputo; sister in law, Laura Frederick, and godchild, James Kelly (Bubba) Frederick II.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Friday, October 8, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Luiz Meza, Billie and his entire staff, Rene, Tina, Mathilda and all of the staff at Burdin Rheil, as well as the nursing staff at Lafayette General Hospital for the care and compassion through this difficult time.
