Zemma Roy Campbell Vallot

June 18, 1941 — October 11, 2010

Abbeville- Zemma M. Roy, 69, known to many friends and students as Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Vallot, passed away at her residence in Abbeville surrounded by family, on Monday, October 11, 2010.

A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Abbeville, LA. Celebrant for the mass will be family friend, Rev. Arockiam Arockiam, SVD, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Broussard, LA. along with con-celebrant Father Kenneth Mayne at Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church.

Interment will be at Saint Paul Cemetery, Abbeville, LA.

Zemma was born in Kaplan, LA on June 18, 1941 to the union of Jeffery Roy and Lillie Celestine. She spent her adulthood residing in Abbeville. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to all she met. Zemma touched the future through the many children she taught throughout Vermilion Parish. She had recently retired from the Vermilion Parish School Board after working 34 years. She taught at JH Williams Middle, Eaton Park Elementary, Herod Elementary and Kaplan Elementary. Zemma was a beautiful person who loved and cared deeply for people. She was an avid lover of life, zydeco music, going on cruises, and an occasional trip to the casino. Her greatest joy was in spending time with her grandchildren and children. She will be greatly missed.

Leaving to cherish her memory are her son, Roderick Charles Campbell of Abbeville, LA; four daughters, Bridget C. Winters and her husband Larry of Maurice, LA, Agatha C. Leonard and her husband Steven of Pittsburgh, PA, Gwendolyn C. Cole and her husband Anthony, and Ena C. Darby and her husband Clarence and all of Abbeville, LA; thirteen grandchildren, Cedric, Garren, Jade, Jasmine, Derek, Jenson, Thaddeus “TJ”, Regina, Arianna, Nia, Tatum, Timori and Brennan; one great-grandson, Daylon; Charles Campbell; four sisters, Lula Mouton, Theresa Jackson, Rita Handy and Catherine Robinson; uncles Jay Will Celestine and J.V. Roy and aunt Eunice R. Guidry.

Zemma was preceded in death by both her parents and an infant son, David Ronald Campbell.

The family extends sincere thanks to the offices of Dr. Mark Charbonnet, Dr. Jeff Thibodeaux, Dr. Phillip Noel and the staff of Journey Hospice. Special thanks and gratitude to Theresa Jackson for her care and comfort, and the many family and friends who offered prayers, visited, called and helped in any way.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are sent to Journey Hospice at 101 LaRue France, Lafayette, LA or The Miles Perret Cancer Center at 2130 Kaliste Saloom Rd., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA.

Visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 S. St. Charles St., Abbeville, starting at 8:00 a.m. until the time of the services. A rosary will be prayed at 12:00 noon at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville.
