Gueydan—Funeral services will be held Monday, October 18, 2010 at a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Annie Mae Richard Abshire, 84, who died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. She will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Jason Vidrine officiating the services.
Ms. Abshire was known for her pot roasted duck and rice and gravy. She passed away with her family by her bedside.
She is survived by one son, Russell Abshire and his wife, Jo of Hayes; three brothers, Eulan, Allen and Roland Richard, all of Gueydan; one sister, Alva Jane Richard of Gueydan; two granddaughters, Michelle Darbonne of Iowa and Jill Abshire of Hayes; and four great grandchildren, Camille Abshire, Nick Martin, Evan Abshire and Madison Abshire.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Abshire; parents, Amar Richard and the former Zeodie Hebert; and one brother, Querie Richard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Monday, October 18, from 9 a.m. until services.
