Dorothy “Dot” Mae Labry Broussard was born, raised and lived her life in Gueydan with her husband Rodney L. Broussard of 66 years. She was called “Sis” by her parents and siblings, but to the rest of the world, Dorothy L. Broussard will forever be remembered as “Dot”.

Dot was the loving matriarchal force in her family. Her motherly instincts compelled her to insist that her son Bill receive an education at the LA School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge regardless of the family’s sacrifice of lonesomeness and separation. Her creativeness inspired the family business known as Dots Drive In opening in Gueydan in 1962. It stood as one of the best hangouts in town, where she especially made sure the jukebox was kept on all night. Her home was a constant place of friendship, dinners, or just “hanging out” for family, and friends. Even though she and her family worked a hectic schedule at “Dots Drive In”, she always cooked a Sunday meal and made sure everyone sat and ate together.

Upon retirement from “Dots” she worked at Thibodeaux's Pharmacy and later served as a Vermilion parish liaison for then Representative Sammy Theriot, where she continued to serve her community for many years. In her strong catholic faith she was a member of her beloved St Peter’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and served as lecturer and Eucharistic minister.

Dot’s appetite for adventure showed up in her love for travel and dance and she and Rodney did both with enthusiasm. They were members of the Rice City Ramblers and Cajun Rebels camper groups and traveled with their friends and family throughout most of the United States, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and eastern Canada. From a campground in Leroy to the mountains of Alaska, or the country of France, her best times were spent traveling. Many days and evenings were spent at the family camp known as the “Rat Hole”, and Lake Arthur lakeside camping park, cooking and dancing the night away with cherished pals.

The Gueydan Duck Festival Association was also a passion of hers where she was an early organizer and contributor. She was the senior pageant coordinator for some 15 plus years and she and Rodney were honored to be named 1993 Duck Festival Honorees. One of her favorite trips was accompanying the Duck Festival Queen to Washington D.C. for a unique Mardi Gras celebration at the Capital.

She is survived by two sons, William "Bill" A. Broussard and his wife, Charlotte of Lafayette and Ricky Broussard and his wife, Christine "Chris" of Milton; one daughter, Kathy B. and her husband, John "Johnny" A. Richard III of Abbeville; one sister, Delucy "Lou" L. LeBlanc of Lafayette; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney L. Broussard; parents, Senua Labry and the former Rosa Woods; and one brother, R.J. Labry.

The family would like to thank the gentle and loving caregivers of Eastridge Assisted Living, Gueydan Memorial Guest Home and Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital for the wonderful attention they gave to her.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 11 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Friday, October 22, from 9 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
