Dunice "Grandma" Bertrand
January 18, 1915 — October 22, 2010
Mrs. Bertrand lived a long, healthy, and full life. Most who knew her called her "Grandma". She was patient and kind. She had a big heart full of love. She welcomed everyone into her home. She spent her life taking care of her children and her grandchildren. She loved when her grandchildren visited, and she loved taking care of them. She was a wonderful cook and everyone knew that they would always find rice and gravy at Grandma's house. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two daughters, Virgie Stelly of Gueydan and Maggie LeMaire and her husband, Logan of Lafayette; ten grandchildren, Hal G. Stelly and wife Liz, Randy Stelly and wife Cindy, Rodney J. Stelly Jr., Brenda Bertrand, Mona and husband David Simon, Chad Bertrand and wife Katy, Angela and husband Buster Hardee, Wendy and husband Ronnie Beaver, Ginger Smith and Lane LeMaire and wife Dawn; 25 great grandchildren, Ida, Rebecca and Claire Stelly, Joshua LaBove, Cole and Kate Stelly, Shawn LaCoste, Lacie Meaux, Chandra LeBeouf, Scottie Simon, Amy Giffin, Valerie Deshotels, Sadie Simon, Drew, Brandon, Chelsea and Luke Bertrand, Kayla Foreman, William and Wyatt Hardee; Addie and Alexx Beaver; Ahni Smith and Demi and Luke LeMaire; and 14 great-great grandchildren, Jayden LaBove, Mia and Gabriel LeBeouf, Derek LeMaire, Andrew and Christopher Primeaux, Megan Giffin, Lydia and Jules Deshotels, Isabel Jo Simon, Ava Jolie Bertrand, Lilya Sagura, Hailey Golden and Norah Jane Foreman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oledia Bertrand; her son, Neelis Bertrand and his wife, Faye; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luke Dugas; one great grandson, Joseph Simon; and her son-in-law, Rodney Stelly Sr.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.; Sunday, October 24, from 9 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.
