Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Catholic Church honoring the life of Verna Mae Stansbury Bilski, 80, who died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Courtyard Manor in Lafayette.
She will be laid to rest at St. James Cemetery with Father Emmanuel Fernandez officiating the services.
Mrs. Bilski retired with the Vermilion Parish School Board with 30 years of services having taught at Abbeville Elementary 1951, Forked Island Elementary 1951-1953, Mouton Cove Elementary 1956, Pecan Island High 1957-1960, Forked Island Elementary 1960-1962, Perry Junior High 1963-1964 and 1965-1968 and Seventh Ward Elementary 1968-1987.
She is survived by two sons, Elias Joseph Bilski, Jr. of Abbeville and Robert Bilski and wife, Alice of Denham Springs; three daughters, Martha Gunter and husband, Lovelace "Jim" of Lafayette, Bibi Wadsworth and husband, Brad of Houston, TX and Beth Marr and husband, Van Powell of Vergennes, VT.; and six grandchildren, Christopher Bilski, Amber Gunter, Dylan Dugas, Meghan Bilski, Paul Bilski and Phillip Bilski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elias Joseph Bilski, Sr.; her parents, Albert Vernon Stansbury and the former Lucy Richard; and one sister, Roberta Baudoin.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Monday, November 15, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
