Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 27, 2010 at a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Church honoring the life of Jean Ernest Pilette, 76, who died Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery with Rev. Paul Broussard officiating the services. Pallbearers will be John Marshall Robertson Jr., Greg Pilette, Wilson Pilette Jr., Joseph Pilette Jr., John Claude Pilette Jr., Claude Hasley and Dexter Perry.
Mr. Pillette had worked for the Erath Sugar Company for many years until his retirement. He was then employed by Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Caldwell until their time of passing. He then was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moresi, Jr. for over 23 years.
He is survived by his wife Lillie Lee Pilette; children, Pinkie Pillette Willis and fiancee, Tony, and Ernest Pillette Jr.; siblings, Azelie Hasley, Arthur Ray Pilette and wife Helen, Joseph Pilette and wife Merline, Gloria Ann Pilette, John Claude Pilette, Sr. and Theresa P. Robertson and husband Marshall; grandchildren, Jerrell and Antonio Willis; adopted granddaughter, Brittnie Sinegar; sisters in law, Lucille Walker and husband Whitney, Luvenia Lee, Venia Green, Louella Oliver and Lucinda Charles; Victoria Harrison and her friend Ken; host of nieces nephews, realitives and friends; and special family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moresi Jr., Paul Moresi III, and Patrick Damas Moresi.
Mr. Pillette loved the game of baseball which he played and coached for years. He was instrumental in acquiring the property where Charley field is now located in Erath. He held the offices of President and Vice President of Erath Youth Baseball and Gulf Coast Little League for many years. He worked very diligently with the youth in Erath and Vermilion Parish for over 40 years. He was still an active Board of Director member (Vice President) with the Erath Softball League, Inc at Charley Field Park which is located in Erath. There is a baseball field there named after him. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eunice Pilette; mother, Rosie Davis Pilette; first wife, Jeanette D. Pilette; daughter, Dawn Elizabeth Pilette and a brother, Wilson Pilette Sr. He truly had a life well lived and now he has a rest well earned.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Saturday, November 27, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. until time of services with a rosary to be prayed at 11:30 a.m.
