Ozite Abshire Lovell

May 31, 1904 — January 13, 2007

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm, Monday January 15, 2007 at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville, honoring the life of Ozite Lovell, age 102, who went to be with her Lord January 13, 2007.
She was a woman who found the greatest joy and pride in her family. She lived to care for them, cook for them, and love them and will be profoundly missed. She was the matriarch of 5 generations. Her strong spirit carries on in her grandchild Lynn and husband Robert Foreman, great-grandchildren Jason Goodson, Jodie Smajstrla, Monique Reed, Mitch Reed, and Shelley Reed, and great-great grandchildren Mason Smajstrla, Lovell Smajstrla, and Peyton Reed, and devoted family members Mitch and Patti Reed. She is also survived by her brother, Wallace Abshire, of Abbeville.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Azemie Bourque and father, Domique Abshire Sr., her husband, Evans Lovell, daughter, Helen Milliman, Son-in-Law, Wilfred "Shing" Milliman, and granddaughter, Cynthia Reed. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Odeon, Olidie, Ovie, Oscar, Oza, Otis, Otto, Olite, Onise, Marie, Domique Jr., and Nelson.
Ozite was born in Wright and married Evans Augusta Lovell June 18, 1923. After marriage, they lived on a boat, The Wisconsin, in the waters of Louisiana, as trappers. Once their daughter, Helen, was old enough for school, they moved to dry land and settled in Vermillion Parish where she was a seamstress for many years. Ozite took great pride in her roll as devoted wife and mother/grandmother. She often talked about the changes she had seen since her birth in 1904 and commented that although she saw the invention of many things like automobiles, televisions, and space travel, her favorite was the addition of indoor plumbing. Her unmistakable outspokenness, adventurous spirit and strong will continue to influence the lives of all of her grandchildren. She was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Abbeville, and for many years often spoke of looking forward to going to be with her Lord.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 S. St. Charles St., Abbeville, Monday January 15 from noon until the time of the service at 3:00 pm.
