Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 1:45 PM on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Vincent Funeral Home in Kaplan, honoring the life of Allen David Matte, 70, who passed away at his residence after a brave fight against cancer. He will be laid to rest at Holy Rosary Cemetery with Deacon Bryan Istre officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be David Matte, Richard Matte, Logan Duhon, Brodee Landry, Aaron Matte, and Larry Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Treyton Matte, Baylor Quebedeaux and Brooks Landry.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Julie Ann Jones Matte; daughter, Melissa Matte Duhon; two sons, David Matte and his wife Shantell Richard Matte, and Richard Matte and his wife Jenny Gaspard Matte. He was a proud Poppie to his grandchildren, Allison Duhon Landry (Brodee), Madison Matte, Logan Duhon, Treyton Matte, Millie Matte, Aiden Angelle Duhon, Jordan Vice, Hunter Vice and Sage Vice; and great-grandchildren, Baylor Quebedeaux, Avery-Kate Landry and Brooks Landry; and one brother, Aaron Matte and his wife, Susan; and one sister, Glenda (Susie) Matte Touchet; and one brother-in-law, Larry Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.G. and Mae Rose Matte; father- and mother-in-law, James “Jimmy” Jones and Peggy Ann Hill Jones; two sisters, Cheryl Ann Matte and Patricia Rose Matte; one brother, Patrick Wayne Matte; and one son-in-law Cori Wayne Duhon.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N Eleazar Avenue, on Saturday, January 27 at 9:00 AM until the services begin at 1:45 PM, with a rosary being prayed at 11:00 AM.
Allen’s family would like to thank Dr. Philippe Prouet II of Ochsner Lafayette General and his staff for the compassion and care they extended during his battle against cancer. They would also like to thank Hospice of Acadiana for ensuring he found peace at the end of the amazing life he lived.
In acknowledging the loss of their leader, Allen’s family finds comfort in the precious memories they created with him. These memories will be treasured forever. They extend sincere thanks to family and friends for the overwhelming emotional support and kindness that surrounded them through Allen’s courageous fight against cancer.
Allen’s children, Melissa, David and Richard would like to extend their profound gratitude to both of their parents. In a heartfelt tribute, they express their gratitude to their father, saying, “Dad, thank you for fighting so hard and always showing us the importance of family.” To their mother, they convey a deep appreciation beyond words, stating, “Mom, there are never enough words to express how grateful we are that God chose you for Dad. You loved and took care of Dad in a way no one else could. We Love you both so much for the Love and Life you gave us!”
