Abbeville—A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church 300 Pere Megret St. in Abbeville, honoring the life of Dr. Anthony Galitsky, 53. Reverend Nicholas DuPre’ will be the Celebrant for the Mass. The family request visiting hours be observed on Tuesday September 5, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 12:45 PM when the procession departs for church, a rosary will be prayed at 12:00 PM. Visiting will resume on Wednesday September 6, 2023 from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Interment will be private and held at a later date.
Dr. Anthony Galitsky, aged 53, passed away on August 25, 2023, at his home in Abbeville, Louisiana. Anthony was born on March 24, 1970 in Lviv, Ukraine. He was the son of Kateryna and Voitsekh, and the brother to Oleg. Anthony originated from a family of Polish descent.
Anthony grew up and completed primary and secondary studies in Lviv, where since young age he participated in swimming and other athletic activities. There he later attended medical school at Danylo Halytskyy University and then moved to Krakow, Poland where he completed his surgical residency training at Jagiellonian University Medical College. He then won the green card lottery and was able to continue his career in the United States after recertification process and completed his residency training in General Surgery in 2009, and then two fellowships with honors - Hepatobiliary and Abdominal Transplant Surgery and Bariatric Surgery in 2011. He spent countless hours being dedicated to his work and patients, forever vigilant, responding to calls about his patients and visiting with them in time of need even outside of the busy schedule, with his career as a surgeon spanning close to 20 years.
He was very energetic, social, curious, with a sense of humor, and was always open to give advice and support to those who needed it. He was self-sufficient and of a strong mind and character with charisma that would allow him to form connections easily with many people. He was a loving and supportive son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and doctor. He cared deeply and tirelessly for his parents and brother and loved visiting the city he was born in, Lviv. He also cared about maintaining continued close connection with family all over the world – in California, Utah, Ohio, Florida, Canada, New Zealand, Ukraine, Poland, and more. He enjoyed traveling all over the world, as well as swimming, presenting at many medical conferences, learning foreign languages, and spending time with his dog, Rockster.
He is survived by his niece, Marta; nephew, Oleksandr; sister-in-law, Iryna; as well as his dog, Rockster. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kateryna; father, Voitsekh; and brother, Oleg.
His presence and influence on his family, patients, and community will be timeless and deeply appreciated. Though he left too early, he was always loved and will never be forgotten.
