Kaplan—April was born on April 27, 1976, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a very healthy 8 lb., 6 oz. baby. She loved her Maw-Maw Sarah and Paw-Paw Lambert. April always put her brother before herself. In 1992, she and her family moved to Erath, LA where her family still resides. April always put the Lord first in everything she did and was a proud member of Westside Baptist Church in New Iberia, Louisiana.
She let everyone know she had everything in her life under control, so they would not worry too much about her. She always wanted to be a teacher, and then wanted to be the CEO of a printing company. But the Lord had a different plan for her because in 1995, she was diagnosed with Fibrosarcoma cancer on her left shoulder. April had endured 3 full operations to fully remove the tumor. And, against all odds, she beat the cancer, and lived in remission for 28 years. She worked at UMC for a while and ended up pregnant with her only biological daughter. Her pregnancy ended with her having to make the decision between herself and her daughter. She chose her daughter, and never regretted her decision.
April had her daughter, Julia, on March 24, 2004 at around noon that day. Her daughter was her miracle because she never thought she was going to be able to have children. April loved her daughter with all her heart and did everything in the best interest of Julia. She was so proud of everything that Julia was accomplishing and was there for her daughter every step of the way.
April was kind to everyone she met and was able to change so many lives through her work at the Mental Health Clinic in New Iberia. She set her plans and met them every single time. April was the mother-hen to her siblings and loved them with all her heart.
"Fly high my sweet daughter! And no matter what, Daddy and Momma will always love you."
She is survived by her daughter, Julia Leger; her ex-husband, Rodney Leger; partner Dalton Bonin; her parents, Samuel and Carolyn White; two brothers, EJ LaFleur, and Sam White and his wife, Heather; sister, Kayla White Comeaux and her husband, Ryan; four nieces, Kelsey White, Emma Loomis, Chloe Stoute, and Hannah White; and three nephews, James White, Collin Comeaux, and Cole Comeaux.
She was preceded in death by her Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw Lambert; grandfather James White, Jr.; grandmother Cathleen Vice; and sister, Susan Webb Stoute.
A memorial service honoring April's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Kaplan Baptist Church (400 N. Trahan Avenue, Kaplan, LA 70548).
