Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at St. Anne Catholic Church honoring the life of Bradley James Gaspard, 70, who died Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at LeMaire Cemetery with Reverend Matthew Barzare officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Quinton Gaspard, Jonathan Gaspard, Brett Gaspard, Joshua Gaspard, Chance Latiolais and Jerry Gaspard.
Best known as "Mr. G" by students and colleagues, Brad devoted his life to education. For 33 years, he taught high school agriculture (Tioga High, Abbeville High, Meaux High and Erath High.) During that time, he led FFA chapters and traveled throughout the country competing and winning many awards. He took utmost pride in what he did and his passion shined through his work. He has truly shaped the lives of so many during his time in the school system. Staying in touch with his former students was priority to him, as he enjoyed watching them flourish.
A proud LSU graduate (Master of Education plus 30), you could always find Brad chanting "Geaux Tigers." He was an avid sports fan - so much so, he began calling games as an umpire and referee in his spare time.
Brad also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Anyone who knows him knows that he was the life of the party. Brad was never without a smile. He loved to make people laugh - and never let anyone walk away without hearing one of his many jokes! His contagious laugh and joyous spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Arlene Barras Gaspard of New Iberia; five sons, Quinton Gaspard and his wife, Chelsea of Huntsville, AL, Jonathan Gaspard of Maurice, Brett Gaspard and his wife, Brittany of Meaux, Joshua Gaspard and his wife, Chyna of Maurice and Chance Latiolais of Breaux Bridge; one daughter, Cherish and her husband, Kamron Campbell of Cecilia; two grandchildren, Maeve Gaspard of Meaux and Cali Duhon of Maurice; his mother, Melba Marie Gaspard of Forked Island; one brother, Jerry Paul Gaspard of Forked Island; his great nieces who he loved as his own, Keelee Simon of Little Rock, AR and Harlee Simon of Kaplan; and one niece, Laura Berrios of Baton Rouge.
He was preceded in death by his father, Revis John Gaspard; and one brother, Randall Gaspard.
