Brian Michael Lejeune

Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Brian Michael LeJeune, 64, who passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at his residence.  He will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services.  Serving as pallbearers will be Timmy, Stephen, Johnny LeJeune, Joshua LeJeune, Eddie Eskew and Jessie Joubert. Honorary pallbearers include Lloyd LeJeune and Bobby Charles Frederick.

Brian was a native of Mermentau, he graduated from Midland High School, ULL with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education in 1980 and his master's degree from McNeese State University and 30 plus years from Louisiana State University.

Brian began his teaching career in 1980 at Elton High School as an Ag teacher and FFA adviser. During his 17 years there, his students achieved many state and national awards. The Elton High School FFA received the Star Chapter Award for several years. (Mr. Billy Walker was second.)

After leaving Elton High School, Brian moved into administration, serving as Principal of Fenton Elementary School, then Principal of Lacassine High School and Curriculum Supervisor at the central board office. He then served as Assistant Superintendent and finally Superintendent of schools of Jefferson Davis Parish. After retiring from the school system, he returned to work in education joining Edgear of America to assist school administrators with their records and databases for five years.

Brian was completely dedicated to his family, who could not have asked for a better husband or father. Every morning he greeted his mother-in-law with “Good morning, Sunshine” and she would respond “Good morning, Mr. Moon”. He enjoyed the Beatles, game shows and LSU baseball. Brian had a sweet-tooth and couldn’t be kept away from black walnut ice-cream. His daughter would frequently call him with questions, and he always had the answer, whether it was “Did we just see a beaver in Opelousas?” or identifying the use of strange farm equipment from shaky phone pictures taken out of car windows. He was an amateur handy-man, adjusting his home for his wife and his daughter’s classroom when she needed his muscle. He has passed these handy skills to her. He was an inspiration to all around him and will live on through all of the lives that he touched. His favorite saying was, “When I grow up, I want to be Alby Hanks."

He is survived by his wife of 42 years would have been 43 years on May 31, 2023, Christine Frederick LeJeune of Lafayette; his daughters, Candace Kaye LeJeune and Tatum Hope McGee of Point Blue; his brothers, Stephen  LeJeune and his wife, Gail of Iota, Timmy LeJeune and his wife, Lisa of Mermentau, and Johnny LeJeune and his wife, Stacy of Mermentau; his godmother, Percella Adams of Morse; his aunt, Evelyn LeBlanc of Sulfur; his godfather, Lloyd LeJeune of Lafayette; his mother-in-law, Beverly Frederick of Kaplan; and his two granddogs, Cricket and Vincent.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Wilda Mae LeJeune; and his father-in-law, Ravis Frederick.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM; Friday, March 24, 2023 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 10:45 AM.
