Carlton Paul Trahan, Sr.

September 19, 1951 — November 20, 2024

Carlton Paul Trahan, Sr., son of proud parents Ophelias and Bernice Marie (Mire) Trahan, first saw the light of day in Crowley, Louisiana on September 19, 1951, and passed away on November 20, 2024, at his residence in Madisonville, Texas.

Carlton grew up in “Cajun” country and so it was no surprise that everything he did reflected his deep Cajun roots. It was a joy to sit with Carlton and engage in conversation which came with an easily detectable Cajun flare. Many benefited from Carlton’s Cajun influenced culinary genius over the years. He was fun loving and even in difficult times had the innate ability to keep things in a lighthearted perspective. Singing Hank Williams songs was something he enjoyed, and he knew many by heart. If there was a dance floor around, it was likely that Carlton would be on it.

A couple of Carlton’s greatest passions were animals, especially his dogs and horses, as well as the oil field where he spent most of his working career. He possessed a very strong work ethic and set an example worth following. His integrity was solid, and his generosity overflowed to the aid of many in need. Carlton saw the value in people and sought to help them at his own expense. When he owned his own business, his employees were always cared for in very genuine and authentic ways. Carlton expressed his love for others by asking, “What can I do for you?” His concern was real, and he was quick to offer a solution to those who needed it. He was very forgiving and said little, but when Carlton did have something to say, it was worth listening to.

To say that Carlton loved and adored his family remains an insufficient articulation when trying to describe his true affections for those closest to him. He cherished every moment with his family and regardless of his own circumstances, could bring a smile to others. He will be fondly remembered as a man of character who lived well and loved much. He was a sacrificial servant who left an indelible mark on the lives of those he encountered.

A memorial service officiated by Deacon Bryan Istre will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Vincent Funeral Home in Kaplan. A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The burial will follow in Abshire Cemetery.

Carlton was preceded in death by both of his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Carlton Paul Trahan, Jr. of Logansport, Louisiana, Meshell Wasicek (Scott) of Madisonville, Kevin Trahan (Charmaine) of Katy, Amanda Kestler (Walter) of Kaplan, Louisiana, and Laurie Primeaux of Crowley, Louisiana; brothers, Shelvan Trahan and Kenneth Trahan (Karen) of Kaplan, Louisiana; sisters, Esther Abshire of Kaplan, Louisiana and Lena Grimes (Stan) of Dayton; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family, and loving friends.
