Catherine Comeaux Thomas

Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Catherine Comeaux Thomas, 71, of Carencro, Louisiana. She died peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Oschner Lafayette General Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.  She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery with Reverend Palthasar Arrockia Doss officiating the services.

Catherine was born August 31, 1950, in Abbeville, Louisiana to Donald Charles Comeaux, Sr. and the former Doris Mae Vincent. Catherine graduated from Kaplan High School in 1968.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Northwestern State University in 1972 and a Master of Arts Degree in Education from McNeese State University in 1979. Catherine was a teacher at Rene Rost Middle School in Kaplan, Louisiana for eleven years. She was a librarian at Highland Elementary School in Bakersfield, California for fifteen years. Catherine loved reading to students and purchasing books for the library.

Catherine kept God at the very center of her life, heart, and family. She loved cooking, reading, crafting, and traveling. Cathy loved traveling in the United States, England, and Canada. Her favorite trip was to Nova Scotia where she was able to trace her Cajun roots and continue to build her family tree. Catherine had several health problems through her life, battling cancer twice and having open heart surgery. She showed tenacity as she faced these challenges head on. Catherine’s strength was admired by her family and friends.

Catherine is survived by her husband of fifty years, James Lloyd Thomas, Jr.; her daughter, Mary Thomas Perron and husband, Adrian; brother, Carl Comeaux and wife, Deborah; her brother, Jeffery Comeaux and wife, Terry; her goddaughter, Jillian Comeaux Handler and her husband, Cameron; two godsons, Mitchell Vincent and wife, Therese and Garrett Veazey; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by lifelong friends, L.C. and Alma Ingles who served as best man and maid of honor at her wedding.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Infant Thomas; her parents; paternal grandparents, Clifford and Louise Comeaux; maternal grandparents, Oday and Lucille Vincent; and two brothers, Donnie and Peter Comeaux.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Thursday, June  9, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Friday, June 10, 2022 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 10:45 AM.
