Charles James Gunter

August 20, 1927 — March 17, 2021

Abbeville—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at St. James Church honoring the life of Charles James Gunter, 93, who died Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Abbeville General Hospital.  He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend Emmanuel Fernandez officiating the services.  Pallbearers will be Brett Gunter, Cody Gunter, Marcus Gunter, Nathan Judice, Tommy Brown and Grant Gaspard.  Honorary pallbearer will be Pat Cabiness.

Charles was a veteran of the United States Navy who served our country during World War II.  He retired from Amoco Oil Company where he was employed as an operator.  He enjoyed a lifetime of fishing and crabbing in nearby waters. Gardening vegetables was an important thing in his life, and he was very good at it.

He is survived by his two sons, Edward Charles Gunter and his wife, Roma of Abbeville, and Lovelace “Jim” Gunter and his wife, Martha of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Brett Gunter, Cody Gunter, Marcus Gunter, Lauren Gaspard and Amber Judice; and ten great grandchildren, Hailey Gunter, Taylor Gunter, Kaitlyn Gunter, Wyatt Gunter, Emmett Gunter, Zane Gaspard, Olivia Gaspard, Emmett Judice, Eva Mae Judice and Bryson Gunter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Gunter; parents, Edward Gunter and the former Beatrice Milton; and siblings, Pauline G. Brown, Doris G. Thompson and Leroy Gunter.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Friday, March 19, 2021 from 4:30 PM until 9:00 PM ; Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM when the procession will depart for the church.
