Granny Bruce, a direct descendant of the earliest European migrants to North America, was born on Aug. 25, 1926 to Edna Marie Blanchard Dartez and Gaston Joseph Dartez, Sr. on Forked Island in Vermilion Parish, LA., where the Cajun Prairie meets the marsh. She was a woman of strong faith and character, a consummate homemaker, wonderful cook, a loving  mother, and devoted wife.

She and her husband, the late Sabry Felix Broussard, Sr., moved to the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta in the early 1950s as part of a migration of Vermilion Parish Acadian families who played a major role in the establishment of successful rice farming practices in the region.

She is survived by her three daughters, Veronica and her husband, Willis Hebert of Kaplan, LA, Janney and her husband, Tommy Fleming of Drew, MS, and Margaret and her husband, David Rushing of Indianola, MS; three sons, Sabry Broussard, Jr. and his wife, Lynn of Springfield, MO, Frank Broussard of Lexington, MS,  and Paul Broussard and his wife, Claire of Abbeville, LA; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sabry Felix Broussard, Sr.; her parents, Gaston Joseph Dartez, Sr. and the former Edna Marie Blanchard; and one brother, George Napoleon Dartez.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Monday, March 19, 2018 from 9:00 AM until the procession departs for the church with a rosary being prayed at 11:00 AM.
