Dorothy Abshire

October 4, 1957 — July 21, 2024

Cow Island—Dorothy Abshire, 66, passed away on July 21, 2024, at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 4, 1957, Dorothy lived a life full of warmth, love, and a passion for nature.

Dorothy’s love for the outdoors was evident in her beautiful garden, a sanctuary she tended to with care and devotion. Her vibrant flowers were a testament to her green thumb and were admired by all who had the pleasure of visiting her home. Gardening was not just a hobby for Dorothy; it was a way of life. She found joy in nurturing her garden, spending countless hours under the sun, hands in the soil, cultivating beauty and life.

Above all, Dorothy cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. Her face would light up with pure delight whenever she was in the company of her grandbabies. She was a doting grandmother who took great pride in their accomplishments, no matter how small, and her home was always filled with their laughter and joy. Dorothy’s legacy of love, patience, and nurturing will live on through them.

She is survived by one son, Jimmie Bertrand, Jr. (Bliss) of Forked Island; one daughter, Jenny Prather (Steven) of Cow Island; three grandchildren, Laci Prather, Brooklyn Prather, and Sunny Prather; three sisters, Barbara Abshire of Kaplan, Linda Lormand of Kaplan, and Shirley Abshire of Kaplan; two brothers, Calvin Abshire of Forked Island, and David Abshire of Kaplan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. Abshire and the former Annie Mae Hargrave; two brothers, Minus Abshire, and Alvin Abshire; and her nephew, Bernie LaSalle.
