ABBEVILLE- A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville honoring the life of Durphy "Frere" Broussard, 94, who passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Durphy spent his life by the Luke Bryan song “HUNTIN’, FISHIN’ & LOVIN’ EVERY DAY”. In his spare time from farming, he could be found either in the crawfish pond or in the woods doing some hunting. But most of all his biggest love was spending time with his family that made him so very proud. Durphy extended his love of cooking to various supper clubs that he was involved with. Durphy was a member of the Vermilion and Lafayette Boat Clubs and also the Greater Gulf Coast Boating Association. He served as Commadore for Vermilion and Greater Gulf Coast for numerous years.
Durphy spent the early years of his life serving our country in the Korean War driving the tankers for approximately 18 months. Durphy has had a wonderful full life doing the things that he loved. He farmed rice and beans for 70 years and worked the crawfish pond until he was no longer capable. He worked for Richard Cattle Auction Barn in Abbeville for several years and Consolidated Gravity Drainage District # 1 – Vermilion for 20 years where he then retired from.
A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 9:00 AM to time of services. A rosary will be prayed at 1:30 pm on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
