Efton Joseph Fontenot, Sr.

Abbeville—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, March 19, 2021 at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church honoring the life of Efton Joseph Fontenot, 77, who died Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at his residence.  He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Fr. François Sainte-Marie officiating the services.  Those serving as pallbearers will be James Mouton, Jessie Frederick, Ricardo Guerra, Billy Delcambre, Anthony Menard and Efton Fontenot, III.

Efton will be fondly remembered by family as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He had a love for family and babies. He always wanted to be holding the newest family member.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Frederick Fontenot; two sons, Ronald Fontenot, Sr. and Efton Fontenot, Jr. both of Abbeville; two daughters, Patricia Leleux and her husband, Bill, and Sherry Fontenot all of Abbeville;  grandchildren, Crystal Menard, Anthony Menard, Marco Menard, Tara Fontenot, Efton Fontenot, III, Ronald Fontenot, Jr., Keisha Fontenot, Blade Fontenot, Billy Delcambre, Alice Delcambre, and Mark Delcambre; thirteen great grandchildren; and sister, Ella Breaux of Iota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton Fontenot, and the former Ella Johnson; parents-in-law, Claude and Marie Frederick; brother-in-law, Billy John Frederick; son, Anthony Fontenot; sister-in-law, Mary Jean Clark; and daughter-in-law, Ena Fontenot.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 12:00 PM and will remain open until time of services on Friday.  A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Thursday.
