November 19, 1947 — December 28, 2024

Abbeville- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am, on January 2, 2025 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Eric Wayne Moss, 77, with Father Billy Massie officiating. Eric passed away on December 28, 2024 at Calcutta House in Lafayette. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery.

Eric Moss was born on November 19, 1947 in Abbeville, Louisiana. A lifelong fisherman and hunter, Eric spent his early years learning the waterways of Louisiana and had his own boat by the age of twelve. At the age of 16, he met the love of his life, Rebecca "Becky" Romero, and they were married on August 14, 1967. Eric was a star tackle on the football team at Abbeville High School and was awarded most valuable player in 1964. He then attended Louisiana Technical University and was an offensive right guard on the football team. He completed his degree in Elementary Education and then went on to coach football, basketball, and track and teach industrial arts at J. H. Williams Middle School for 33 years, where he passed on his skills and made lifelong impact on the lives of his students. In 1993 he was the first lineman inducted into the Abbeville High School Hall of Fame. He was awarded the Vermilion Association of Educators Hall of Fame Award and after retirement served on the Vermilion Parish School Board from 2003 to 2007. He is remembered fondly by those he taught as "Coach Moss".

Eric found joy and peace in the waters of Vermilion Bay and could quite literally navigate his boat with his eyes closed. He also had a great love for hunting and enjoyed hunting trips with family and friends. He was a craftsman of diverse skill, building boats, deer stands, furniture, and drawing house plans. He was generous with his skills and time, always helping and teaching others within his family and community. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, protector, and teacher by all who knew him and as "Pops" by his grandchildren.

The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of Acadian Home Care, Hospice of Acadiana, and Calcutta House who provided Eric with quality and compassionate care.

He is survived by his loving wife, Becky Romero Moss; son Cory Moss (Jody); son Scott Moss (Janice); daughter Amy Moss; and daughter Ashley Kacenjar (Leo). Eric is also survived by his two siblings, brother Michael Moss (Celeste) and sister Marsha Fredrick (Paul) and his grandchildren Haley (Kade), Braden (Emily), Collin, Victoria, Amber, Andrew, Jalyssa, Messiah, and Romie.

He is preceded in death by his parents Magee Moss and Grace Moss; and his grandson Thai Moss.
