Kaplan—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Kaplan, LA, honoring the life of Ernest "Ernie" Fontaine, 99, who passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Evangeline Memorial Gardens with Reverend Nicholas DuPré officiating the services.
Ernie was a decorated WWII veteran, serving in the army infantry in the European Theater, and recipient of the Bronze star medal.
A 30 year employee of Hano Business Forms in Springfield, MA, he and his beloved wife Madeleine resided in Easthampton, MA for their working life. Retiring in 1980 to the Gulf Coast, they settled in Louisiana to be near their grandchildren.
He is survived by his three sons, Phillip Fontaine and his wife, Katie of Filmore, CA, Larry Fontaine and his wife, Anne of Seven Devils, NC, and Don Fontaine and his wife, Tammie of Kaplan, LA; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, the former Madeleine Couchon; his parents, Donald Charles Fontaine and the former Nora Prince; and one brother, Roger Fontaine.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Mr. Ernie's caregiver, Terri Broussard, the staff of Hospice of Acadiana, and the staff of Rosewood Retirement Community.
