Gary Donald Choate

February 6, 1950 — May 21, 2019

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Gary Donald Choate, 69, who died Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice following a brief illness. He will be laid to rest at LeMaire Cemetery with Reverend Kyle Coates officiating the services.

Gary may have been born with mental disabilities but this never stopped him from living life to the fullest. After his biological mother Eunice died when Gary was in his 40’s he was “adopted” by Burton “Boo” LeMaire and Janell LeMaire. They raised him in Forked Island until 2002. After that Janell LeMaire continued to be his surrogate mother and best friend, raising him at her house in Nunez. In 2018 for the first time in his life, Gary lived on his own in an apartment, which he loved with the assistance of home health workers. Gary loved living a simple and happy life. He also loved Cajun dancing, bowling, and eating out. He especially loved his coworkers at the ARC.

Although Gary had special needs and challenges he was a blessing to many people. Matthew 5 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

We would like to thank Janell LeMaire for being an advocate for Gary most of his life. We would also like to thank Josette Perez for being with Gary day and night the last two weeks of his life and especially Janice and Margaret of the ARC of Vermilion for loving him.

He is survived by his brother, Jimmy Choate of Perry; his first cousins, Burton “Boo” LeMaire, Thomas “Autry” LeMaire and his wife, Barbara “Bob”, Carol LeMaire and his wife, Frances; second cousins, Charmaine LeMaire, Josette LeMaire Perez and her husband, Andre, Desiree LeMaire Jackson and her husband, Jason, and Burton LeMaire and his wife, Ashley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Joseph Choate and the former Eunice LeMaire.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 9:00 AM until the time of the services at 1:00 PM.
