Gilbert Hargrave

Kaplan—Graveside services will be held honoring the life of Gilbert Hargrave, 91, who died Monday, April 27, 2020 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Palthasar Arrockia Doss officiating the services.

Gilbert was a native and lifelong resident of Kaplan. He was married to the late Louise Winnie Belle Guidry in 1948 and together they raised with pride and love, their four children, teaching them the values they needed to grow to be independent and loving individuals. After working in the oilfield for well over 25 years, he retired and took pleasure in spending time with his family. Over the years, Gilbert enjoyed doing things outdoors, like fishing, crabbing, and shrimping. He made some lasting friendships from his fishing trips and thoroughly enjoyed his time spent with them. God called him to join his true love, now they are once again united.

He leaves behind his two daughters, Dorothy H. Hernandez and her husband, Kent of Scott and Linda H. Jacobs of Metairie; his two sons, Michael and his wife, Deborah of Kaplan and James and his wife, Rickey of Lafayette; his grandchildren, Shane Menard of Kaplan, Monique M. McNabb of Woodlands, TX, Jaryd Hargrave and his wife, Tracy from Kaplan, Derek Hargrave and his wife, Kristina of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Tara W. Bertoniere and her husband, Brad of Madisonville, Ashley W. Berner and her husband, Kyle of New Orleans, and Jennifer W. Kershenstine and her husband, Tim of Metairie; his step grandson, Everette Meaux; 16 great grandchildren, Gage and Rhett Menard, Cole, Isabella, and Abel Hargrave, Kloe and Nyla Meaux, Tyler, Hunter, and Morgan McNabb, Cameron, Aubrey, Jonah, and Renee Bertoniere, Pepper Kershenstine, and Remy Berner; and two great-great grandchildren, Jeauvi and Jance Menard.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Louise Winnie Belle Guidry; his parents, Olivier Hargrave and the former Bernice LeMaire; his brothers, Wilbert and Wilson Paul; his sisters, Anna Mae H. Gaspard, Willie Mae H. Menard, and Clara H. Saltzman; sisters-in-law, Eula Mae G. Miller and Thelma Hargrave; brothers-in-law, Murphy Menard, Lezy Miller, Joe Gaspard, and Shelton Saltzman; his godchild, Sharon M. Guidry; and his granddaughter, Meagan H. Meaux.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital and Dr. Randal Faulk for their care in his final hours.
