Gloria Desormeaux Hebert

Abbeville—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Abbeville, LA on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, honoring the life of Gloria Desormeaux Hebert, 84, who passed away on November 21, 2021 surrounded by her family. She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with the Reverend Donald Bernard officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be her seven grandsons: Jarod Hebert, Erik Hebert, Andrew Hebert, Patrick Schexnayder, Ian Schexnayder, Joshua Thomas, and Seth Hebert. Gift bearers for the Offertory of the Mass will be her seven granddaughters: Alyson Landry, Abby Smith, Heather Brown, Megan Richard, Brittany Landry, Macey Pippin, and Morgan Clark. Altar servers will be her great grandsons: Peyton Thomas, Tucker Thomas, and Evan Schexnayder.

Born on September 18, 1937 to Eddie Desormeaux and Lena Frederick, Gloria was a lifelong resident of Abbeville, LA. She was a devout Catholic and long-time parishioner of St. Theresa Church. As a person of tremendous faith, she served as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, and sacristan, as well as a devout member of her Holy Family Pray Group for many years. Her and Buddy were particularly devoted to weekly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, sharing a cup of coffee, or playing games with those she loved. She also enjoyed the support and friendship of her supper club for many years. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be remembered by all as loving, hospitable, and faithful. She was “Granny” to many and especially loved the little ones in the family. She spent immeasurable hours supporting her family in various endeavors and events and she lived to give. When with her, she made everyone feel seen in a way that is rare these days.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Donald “Buddy” Hebert; her 6 children: Michael Hebert (Melanie) of Gibsonville, NC; Suzanne Schexnayder (James) of Abbeville, LA; Dona Harrington (Neil) of Abbeville, LA; Julia Davidson (Jimmy) of Lake Charles, LA; Paula Hewlett (Fred) of Maurice, LA; and Gary Hebert of Covington, LA; 14 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as 2 sisters: Hazel Campbell and Edylene (Dennis) Hebert, both of Abbeville, LA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie Desormeaux and Lena Frederick Desormeaux; great grandchild, Channing Smith; and her in-laws, Emile Hebert and Avia Abshire Hebert.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville, LA (209 S. St. Charles Street) on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 9:00 am until the time of service, with a rosary being prayed at 12:45 pm
