Gueydan—James Joseph Bertrand, also known as Jimmie, passed away on December 23, 2023, at the age of 72 in Lubbock, Texas. Born on November 13, 1951, in Gueydan, Louisiana, Jimmie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Jimmie was known for his kind and caring nature, always ready with a kind word and a smile. He had a fun-loving personality and was admired for his generous, positive, and patient spirit. Jimmie was deeply involved in various community organizations with the passion of an angel: Knights of Columbus, Free Mason, Eastern Star, and the Shriners Club. These organizations were close to his heart, and he dedicated his time and energy to their causes.
Jimmie is survived by his devoted wife, Terry Bertrand, and his children, Kellie Bertrand and Krystal O’Conner. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Dylan Williams, Dalton Williams along with his wife, Amber Williams, and Mikayla along with husband, William Woodfin; as well as his great-grandchild, Zoe Williams; and Jimmie’s siblings, George Logan and Selina Bertrand, Randall and Sharla Bertrand, and Robert and Hope Bertrand along with many nieces and nephews that will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oland Bertrand, his mother, Ouida Bertrand, and his sister, Zenith Petry. Their memories will forever be treasured by Jimmie’s family.
Funeral services for Jimmie will be held at Vincent Funeral Home in Gueydan, Louisiana. A public viewing will take place on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM, with a rosary at 6:00 PM. The public viewing will continue Saturday, December 30, 2023, starting at 9:00 AM until time of services. The service led by Brother Phillip Sprages will begin at 11:00 AM. Burial at Gueydan Cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital. Your support will help continue their mission of providing specialized care to children in need.
Jimmie’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, love, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
