Abbeville— A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of James Kelly Frederick, 91, who passed away peacefully Sunday, November 27, 2022 in Lafayette, LA. Reverend Louis Richard will officiate the Mass. Serving as altar server will be Trenton Romero. The readers for the Mass will be Ali Miller and Jed Frederick. Gift bearers will be Maria Romero and Ashley Meaux. Entombment will take place in St. Paul Mausoleum in Abbeville, LA. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Blake Romero, Nathan Romero, Caleb Frederick, Noah Frederick. Honorary pallbearers will be Bradley Duhon and Canaan Frederick.
Kelly was born and raised in Abbeville, LA joined the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict, he received the Bronze Service Star, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. As a young man he enjoyed camping, boating, coaching youth sports, watching football, and barbecuing on Sundays. In his later years Kelly enjoyed taking care of his lawn and gardening.
Kelly was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, where he attended Mass Daily and would open the Church before Mass. He prayed the rosary daily, he was a member of the Men of Mary.
Kelly is survived by his daughters, Renee F. Romero and her husband, Keith, Rochelle F. LeBlanc and her husband, Randy, and Joan F. Romero and her husband, Kurt; sisters, Doyce Caputo and Lona Dean Sellers; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Clara Fournier Frederick; his parents, Luke Frederick and Elite Hebert Frederick; sons, James Kelly Frederick, II and Jude F. Frederick; and brothers, Rayward J. Frederick and William Gayle Frederick.
The family is eternally grateful to his caregivers and the staff at Cedar Crest Memory Care, Concepts of Care, Palliative Care of Acadiana and Hospice of Acadiana for the wonderful care and compassion shown to our dad.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic 300 Pere Megret St. Abbeville, LA on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 12:00 PM until time of the Mass. A rosary will be prayed at 1:00 PM by the Men of Mary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of James Kelly Frederick to either Hospice of Acadiana 2600 Johnston St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503 or the Alzheimer Association 3445 N. Causeway Blvd., Ste. 902, Metarie, LA 70002.
