James “Pep” Lopez

Gueydan—Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Gueydan First Baptist Church honoring the life of James Lopez, 81, who died Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Gueydan Memorial Guest Home.  He will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Pastor Troy Duhon officiating the services.

James “Pep” Lopez was born on March 7, 1941to Raymond and Bernice Lopez. Pep was a retired welder; and a loving husband, father, granddad, great granddad and uncle. Pep was an avid hunter. In his spare time he loved riding his side-by-side, shooting snakes and keeping Gueydan safe from armadillos.

He leaves behind his wife of 19 years, Phoebe Lopez; one sister, Betty Fontenot of Texas; two brothers, Ernest Lopez (Melba) of Jennings and Harold Lopez (Sandra) of Alexandria; four daughters, Judy LaCombe (Mickey), Karen Cook (Paul), Andrea Lopez and Kristy Fox (Greg); seven grandchildren, Candace LaCombe, Richard LaCombe III, Sidney Boyd (Andrew), Paul B. Cook, Jr., Avery Cook, Stone Fox and Slade Fox; and four great grandchildren, Jeanne Legros, Merrick LaCombe, Elvyn LaCombe and Grace LaCombe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Bernice Lopez; stepmother, Rosa Lopez; two sisters, Jane Dartez and Cora Lopez; one brother, Elroy Lopez; one brother-in-law, Henry Fontenot; and one son-in-law, Todd Turner.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth St., on Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM; Monday, November 28, 2022 from 9:00 AM until 12:45 PM when the procession departs for the church.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Gueydan Memorial Guest Home.
