Janelle Plattsmier Domingues

January 4, 1930 — September 17, 2022

Abbeville -A private interment service was held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 to remember Janelle Plattsmier Domingues, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on September 17, 2022.  Janelle Plattsmier Domingues was born January 4, 1930 in Rayne, Louisiana.

Janelle was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Allen Ray Domingues, Sr. and her loving son, Allen Ray Domingues, Jr., her parents, Winfred Joseph Plattsmier, Sr. and Edith Breaux Plattsmier, her brother, Winfred Joseph Plattsmier, Jr. and sister, Joycelyn Plattsmier Cobena.  Janelle is survived by her loving children, Jan Domingues Guilbeau (Roger), Donald Edmund Domingues, Stephen Brian Domingues (Pam), Joy Domingues Barter (Lynn) and Jill Domingues Sargent (William).  She was a loving grandmother “MaMa” to 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Janelle was born and raised in Rayne, Louisiana.  She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School and was proudly the Frog Queen of Rayne in her youth.

While attending S.L.I. (now UL-L) in Lafayette, she met and married her husband, Ray, on May 23, 1953.  She and Ray lived in Lafayette for several years before making Abbeville their home.  She was active in serving her community and a member of various clubs and organizations, including Junior League of Lafayette and one of the original members of Fortnightly of Abbeville, among others.  She remained an avid bridge player with her original ladies bridge group in Lafayette for more than 30 years.

Janelle was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Abbeville.  She was, also, one of the founding members of her beloved prayer group of ladies in Abbeville.

Janelle or “Lady,” as she was affectionately known by some, was a friend to all.  She was especially fond of her own children’s friends and considered a second mom to many.  She was definitely “one in a million” and her friendship was infectious.

She and Ray loved traveling and entertaining. They were fortunate to have traveled the world and provided the many memories shared by family and friends.  She was equally gracious when entertaining, always offering her home for the “party” or planned event.

Janelle “MaMa” “Lady” will be missed greatly.  She was truly a lovely lady. We love you, MaMa.
